First off, organize the appearance
- Resort to boxes and grids, and be sure to lay them out in straight lines and be sure that each product displayed on the catalog is clearly defined and displayed.
- Only display the a short description of the product in the catalog page. The full description is only needed in the product's page itself.
- Be sure to use the white and blank spaces accordingly.
Always keep the navigation clear, categorized and customizable
---> Clarity – your navigation system must be easy to understand and the words and items on them should be clearly defined. For example, if one of the options lead to the Chocolate Cakes page, it MUST lead to the Chocolate Cakes page. Also be sure that if there are items that are out of stock make sure to let your users know at first glance.
---> Categorized – every option in your navigation system should be categorized, from general to specific. Here's an example: Men's wear > Jackets > Leather Jackets > Alligator Skin Biker Jacket.
---> Customizable – your navigation system should be customizable. How? Well, you should be able to give filtering options to your users, in order for them to narrow down their choices in order to effectively look around.
